Want to get your hands dirty for a great cause? The Cambie Square Communal Garden needs help getting into shape before winter!
The event will feature a work party, where volunteers will assist with revitalizing the garden, followed by a celebration, where volunteers can bond over light refreshments and learn some gardening tips from our resident gardeners.
The main volunteer tasks are:
- Rebuild 4 garden beds: remove the soil, dismantle the old beds, build new garden beds and then put the soil back in. 10-15 people.
- Cut back tree roots near garden beds: remove the soil from the beds, locate the tree roots that extend into the garden beds, cut them. 15-20 people.
- Weeding. 5-10 people
We are looking for all skill levels: green thumbs, plant enthusiasts, or new gardeners alike!

New to the garden?
The Cambie Square Communal Garden is a communally-run demonstration garden, located on the southwest corner of Cambie and 10th Avenue. There are no individual plots. Rather, all volunteers share in the planning, planting, harvesting and maintenance of the garden. Our volunteers come from many backgrounds; some are experienced gardeners and some are new to gardening. We all share a keen interest in growing food, maintaining biodiversity and creating sustainable systems.
