The Westside Community Food Market

2015 Market season video by Erik Andersen. Thanks Erik!

Is local, sustainable food not accessible enough for you?

The Society Promoting Environmental Conservation (SPEC) and Kitsilano Neighbourhood House are trying to change that for residents of the Westside. Together, we co-host the Westside Community Food Market every summer, on Thursday evenings, from 3 pm to 7 pm, at the corner of West 7th Ave and Vine.

If you are interested in being a food or arts and crafts vendor at the 2018 Westside Community Food Market, please read the vendor guidelines and fill out the online application.

The Westside Community Food Market gives small scale and new local vendors an opportunity to sell their produce directly to customers, while also helping low-income and vulnerable populations access local foods that are close to home through a coupon program.

And another video prepared by one of our vendors, Fatih Balkis, in 2012!

The Pocket Market was built on a pilot project by KNH which sought to build the local food movement by creating additional avenues for local food producers to connect with local food consumers. The market also served as an educational vehicle for local and seasonal eating and many market visitors took the opportunity to interact with vendors to learn about preparing and cooking new local produce. For small vendors, the market provided an important source of revenue and an opportunity to directly connect and get feedback from consumers.

"The direct contact between me as a producer and to the consumer; being able to collect feedback on the spot and develop a relationship that goes beyond “selling”. It is very important for me to go beyond simple supply and demand”.  - Pocket Market Vendor.
